As we begin a new year, I find myself reflecting on the kind of leadership our sector needs and the kind of leadership we aspire to embody at PCMCH.

Effective leadership is not simply about direction. It is about bringing people together around a shared mission. For PCMCH, that mission is clear: improving health outcomes and experiences for pregnant people, infants, children, youth and families across Ontario. This work is only possible because of the collective expertise and commitment of our Governing Council, committees, partners and supporters.

As we mark Black History Month, I also want to recognize the contributions of Black leaders, clinicians, researchers and community advocates who have shaped, and continue to shape, healthcare in Ontario and Canada. Their leadership and advocacy strengthen our system and remind us of the importance of equity, representation and partnership in advancing meaningful change.

The theme of leadership through connection is illustrated in our profile of Ru Taggar, a valued member of PCMCH’s Governing Council. Ru’s journey – from frontline nursing to executive leadership – reminds us that curiosity, compassion and alignment around common goals are powerful drivers of system‑level change. Her reflections reinforce the importance of working with partners, breaking down silos and creating space for shared purpose. You can read Ru’s story here.

In this issue, we also highlight the 2025 Regional Networks Operational Forum (RNOF) Retreat, where leaders from across the province came together to celebrate our progress and shape shared priorities for the year ahead. The energy and alignment at that gathering speak to the strength of Ontario’s regional maternal-child health networks and the momentum we are building together. The discussions underscore how collaboration fuels innovation and helps us collectively respond to emerging needs – from respiratory illness mitigation to enhanced provider education.

As we look ahead to 2026, PCMCH is inviting new voices to join us in our work. We recently launched calls for expressions of interest for our Governing Council and for our Child and Youth Committee. I encourage those who are passionate about system improvement to consider applying.

Thank you for continuing to support PCMCH’s work. Together, we are shaping a stronger, more connected perinatal, neonatal and paediatric health system for Ontario.

Warmly,
Sanober
