The Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH) is pleased to launch the Emergency Department Paediatric Readiness (EDPR) Resource Centre, a new online hub designed to support hospitals and health system partners in strengthening emergency care for children and youth across Ontario. It offers evidence-based tools, guidelines and practice supports to help emergency departments assess and advance their paediatric readiness.

Part of a broader provincial quality improvement initiative

The EDPR Resource Centre builds on the objectives of PCMCH’s EDPR Initiative, a multi-phase quality improvement initiative aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of paediatric emergency care across the province. The EDPR Initiative also includes the EDPR Checklist and the EDPR Findings Report, which summarizes the results of a province-wide assessment survey of Ontario emergency departments conducted in 2022. Together, these components provide a system-level understanding of paediatric readiness and support ongoing improvement efforts across emergency departments of all sizes and settings.

Designed to be practical and easy to use

Designed with usability in mind, the EDPR Resource Centre makes it easy for clinicians, administrators and system leaders to quickly find relevant resources. Users can search and filter materials using the EDPR’s six domains as well as by audience, resource type, and country of origin.

Looking ahead

As part of our ongoing commitment to quality improvement, PCMCH plans to relaunch the EDPR province-wide assessment survey in 2027 to continue monitoring progress and identifying opportunities to strengthen paediatric emergency care across Ontario.

PCMCH gratefully acknowledges the many individuals and organizations who have supported the EDPR Initiative and the development of the EDPR Resource Centre. Their collaboration and commitment reflect a shared dedication to improving emergency care experiences and outcomes for Ontario’s children and families.

We encourage you to visit the EDPR Resource Centre and share with colleagues. If you are aware of a tool or resource that could further advance paediatric readiness in Ontario emergency departments, please contact to submit it for consideration.
